All the staff were fantastic. On check in the manager upgraded us to a larger room which had been recently refurbished to a high standard with stylish en suite shower room. Complimentary tea coffee etc & delicious shortbread bics. Lovely 300 year old traditional pub that had the log fire on one of the nights. Usual bar foid menu but all good quality ingredients cooked to perfection. We had the fish & chips, Lovely fresh fish in a crisp batter and the steak & ale pie, succulent steak in a rich beef gravy. Chocolate brownie for dessert all finished off with a cappuccino. The breakfasts were equally as good & portions very generous. Good walks from the door over to Askham village and onto the Ullswater fells. Can definitely recommend and will stay again.

Fantastic location, with far reaching views and beautifully furnished rooms. Comfy bed, lovely shower, and a gorgeous homemade breakfast with a great variety of options including full hot breakfasts and continental selections to accompany. Very attentive staff, really helpful when we asked for somewhere to store our bikes without notice before arriving. The Thursday pub quiz created a nice atmosphere to enjoy a couple of local beers in the pub, too. Dog friendly and a lovely homely atmosphere - perfectly situated for a stop on the way further up north, or a few nights a stone's throw from Ulswater. Would recommend Aira Falls National Trust a 10 minute drive away!

A building which from the outside looks a bit old....don't be deceived its really nice. the rooms where very clean with tea and coffee making facilities. The toilet was very, very small...but you don't live in the toilet, the shower was good and very clean (although there is a down side to the toilet i will explain in the box below). The meals were nice and breakfast was really good, although if your an early traveler for meetings the breakfast doesn't start until 8am which wont suit everyone!

The Fellmans breakfast was superb. i had evening dinner this was also good. loads of outside sitting areas along with plenty cubby corners in the bar for privacy. My room was excellent plenty of condiments. Very modern feel and spotlessly clean. the bed was super comfy and with being in a rural setting the noise from traffic was literary none. lovely to wake up to the view of the countryside. the staff in the bar and reception were great friendly / professional.

Mark

Location excellent, not far from main road North/South, and easy to visit Ullswater. Very friendly efficient staff. Excellent music played in background. A little fridge in corridor for guests. Kettle and quality drink sachets in room. Decent evening meal and good breakfast (ask for toast with cooked dishes!): great yogurt. Log fire, water for dogs. Car park. Easy walk round the village. Wordsworth owned the pub! Bathroom and fittings very new and decent spec.
